The true definition of IS ( 1st Lesson)

Of course everyone knows that IS is Infocomm Studies but not everyone knows what the true definition is all about. This whole blog will therefore be dedicated to tell and educate everyone to truly know the true meaning of IS.

I will start by talking about my first lesson first. Firstly, I was introduced to my teacher and we started on lessons. I have learnt that all websites have IP addresses but they are somewhat ''minimised'' to form domain names. For example, www.google.com also has an IP address. Imagine whenever we need to search something using google and you have to type out all the numbers! Therefore, this system have provided us with much convenience.

Next, did you all know that the Internet was actually a networking project which aims to allow scientist all around the world to communicate and share different informations with each other. It was finally functional at September 1969.

Before out Internet was so fast, it actually was extremely slow as the computer modem uses a standard telephone line to connect to the internet. I remembered my parents once telling me that the dial-up process was very tedious so another note for you all, treasure the Internet given to you now. Do not become frustrated just because it lags.

Finally, lets discuss about web 2.0 and web 1.0. Leaving out those who attended lessons with me, I bet most of you do not know the difference. Here, web 1.0 is maintained by only 1 person which then post and passes information to everyone who visits the website. The viewers cannot change the website content so information is somewhat ''feeded'' to them.

But, web 2.0 provides a wider range of information as anyone can change the content of the webpage and post any useful information. Examples are the much used Wikipedia and Facebook. Anyone can post useful information onto the webpage so you can learn information posted by others and at the same time help others by posting information yourself too!

REFLECTION

As for my reflection, I guess everyone can guess from the title of my blog that I am quite interested in IS. I like IS as I like the very feeling I get when I learn something else like web 2.0 and the origin of Internet because then I will actually understand what browser I am using when I go to the Internet. Another reason is that I want to learn more and post more information about the Internet so that more and more people can learn about it.

I think that everyone should know that we can go to google so easily without typing numbers for IP address is because someone made that change. We should all study about this and make changes to things which we feel can improve further. But we must have the knowledge first so everyone treasure the IS lessons we all have so as to strive for a better future!

Cheers,
Jack Tan Jie En
